Governance & Audit

For: Admin | Tier: Standard+

OSHA compliance isn't just about having the right chemicals labeled and the right training completed — it's about being able to prove it. The Governance section in AdminHQ provides a complete audit trail of everything that happens in your Tellus account, so when an inspector asks "who approved this plan?" or "when was this chemical added?", you have the answer ready.

Why Audit Logging Matters

Under 29 CFR 1910.1200, employers must maintain a written hazard communication program and keep it current. While OSHA doesn't prescribe exactly how you document program changes, having a detailed audit trail demonstrates that your safety program is actively managed — not just set up and forgotten.

An audit trail helps you:

  • Prove compliance during inspections — Show OSHA inspectors exactly when plans were approved, training was completed, and changes were made
  • Investigate incidents — After a workplace incident, trace back through the chain of actions to understand what happened
  • Maintain accountability — Know who made every significant change to your compliance program
  • Support internal audits — Give your safety committee or corporate EHS team visibility into program activities

Viewing the Audit Log

From AdminHQ > Governance, you can:

  • Filter by event type — Narrow down to specific categories (user activity, inventory changes, plan events, etc.)
  • Filter by user — See all actions taken by a specific person
  • Filter by date range — Focus on a specific time period
  • Search — Find events by keyword (product name, user name, etc.)

Each audit entry shows:

  • Timestamp — Exact date and time of the event
  • User — Who performed the action
  • Event type — What category the action falls into
  • Description — A human-readable summary of what happened
  • Details — Expandable view with before/after values where applicable

Data Export (Pro)

On the Pro plan, you can export your audit log data for long-term archiving or integration with external systems:

  • CSV export — Download filtered audit data as a spreadsheet
  • Date range selection — Export specific periods (monthly, quarterly, annually)
  • Full export — Download your entire audit history

Exported audit data is useful for:

  • Annual OSHA compliance reviews
  • Corporate EHS reporting
  • Insurance documentation
  • Legal hold and discovery requirements

Data Retention

Tellus retains audit log data for the life of your account:

  • Active accounts — All audit data is retained indefinitely
  • Deactivated users — Their historical actions remain in the audit trail
  • Downgraded accounts — Audit data generated on higher-tier plans is preserved but new audit entries may be limited on Starter plans
