ChemIQ — Smart Chemical Inventory

ChemIQ is the core chemical inventory software module for managing everything related to chemicals in your workplace. It brings your SDS library, chemical tracking, regulatory compliance, quantity monitoring, label printing, and PPE recommendations into one unified system — so you can stop juggling spreadsheets, filing cabinets, and manual cross-referencing.

Your EHS agent works behind the scenes to parse Safety Data Sheets automatically, organize chemicals by CAS number, flag regulatory requirements, recommend protective equipment, and alert you when quantities approach reporting thresholds. Because OSHA requires an SDS for every hazardous chemical in the workplace, having a system that tracks SDS requirements and coverage gaps is essential. The result: you spend less time on paperwork and more time keeping people safe.

Key Features​

The ChemIQ workspace is organized into four groups that follow how chemical data moves through your program — Add, Manage, Review, and Tools. The sections below mirror the ChemIQ left-hand navigation exactly.

Add​

Get chemicals into Tellus fast, without tedious manual entry.

  • Quick Entry — Walk the floor and photograph product labels or scan barcodes; AI extracts product info automatically. Spreadsheet, invoice, SDS-library, and copy-from-site methods round out the options. See Quick Import.
  • Add Chemical — Add a single chemical from your product catalog, from an SDS, or by manual entry, with duplicate detection to prevent redundant records. See Chemical Inventory.
  • Bulk Import — Load many chemicals or SDS documents at once and map them to sites and locations in a single guided flow. See Bulk Import.

Manage​

Your day-to-day home for chemical records and Safety Data Sheets.

  • Product Catalog — Your company-wide master list of chemical products, with manufacturer, SDS link, and container sizes tracked per SKU. See Product Catalog.
  • SDS Library — AI-powered Safety Data Sheet management. Upload individually or in bulk; AI extracts hazard data, composition, PPE, and all 16 GHS sections, with version history and full-text search. See SDS Library.
  • Inventory — Comprehensive chemical tracking across your sites and locations, grouped by product, with filtering by site, location, tags, and hazard categories. See Chemical Inventory.

Review​

Verify, cross-reference, and confirm that your inventory is accurate and compliant.

  • Site Quantities — Site-level aggregation that breaks products down to individual chemical components for Tier II / EPCRA reporting, fire marshal reports, and threshold alerts. See Site Quantities & Reporting.
  • CAS Linking — See how your chemicals map to regulatory lists at a glance, grouped by CAS number, with exposure limits (PEL, REL, TLV) and carcinogen-list flags (IARC, NTP). See CAS Number & Regulatory Linking.
  • Review Queue — Where imported submissions wait for a manager to approve before they enter your official inventory. See Quick Import.
  • Compatibility — Storage segregation view that flags incompatible chemicals stored together, based on GHS classification. See Storage Compatibility.
  • Compliance — The Compliance Hub dashboard: SDS coverage, regulatory exposure across 15 regulatory lists (OSHA PEL, NIOSH REL, EPA TRI, CERCLA, Prop 65, and more), automated compliance checks, and GHS classification and tagging. See Compliance Center.

Tools​

Purpose-built utilities for labels, ad-hoc checks, physical counts, and public sharing.

  • Labels — Generate and print GHS, secondary-container, NFPA, and HMIS labels on office or thermal printers, with completeness warnings when required GHS elements are missing. See Label Center.
  • Compatibility Checker — An on-demand tool for checking whether two or more chemicals can be safely stored or handled together, before you commit them to a location. See Compatibility Checker.
  • Reconciliation — Periodic, location-by-location inventory verification with a mobile-first flow, delegation, quantity history, and automatic reminders. Captures Tier II quarterly snapshots for EPCRA Section 312. See Inventory Reconciliation.
  • Public SDS Portal — Share your SDS library through a branded, searchable, login-free portal (see below).

A note on PPE Recommendations​

PPE guidance is not a standalone screen in the ChemIQ navigation. Instead, AI-generated personal protective equipment recommendations — glove type, eye, respiratory, and body protection, drawn from NIOSH guidelines and SDS Section 8 — appear directly on each chemical's and SDS's detail page, where you need them. See PPE Recommendations for how this guidance is built.

A note on ChemIQ Insights​

Chemical analytics and trend data now live in the Insights module rather than inside ChemIQ. Selecting Insights from ChemIQ takes you to the Chemical Insights dashboard, where you'll find inventory health metrics, SDS coverage status, hazard distribution, and trends over time. See ChemIQ Insights.

Public SDS Portal​

Share your SDS library with customers, employees, and contractors through a branded, searchable, login-free portal:

  • Branded company catalog at sds.tellusehs.com/{your-slug} listing every product you've published
  • Weighted full-text search across product name, CAS, manufacturer, and parsed SDS body content
  • GHS pictogram filter chips and hazard-severity sort
  • Per-product SDS pages with hazard summary, GHS pictograms, H/S/E ratings, and PDF download
  • Printable site-access posters with QR codes for unauthenticated employee access during shifts
  • Logo, primary color, contact info, and disclaimer customization — with built-in WCAG contrast validation
  • One-click Visit link from the admin panel to preview before sharing
