Product Catalog

Module: ChemIQ

The Product Catalog is your company's master list of every chemical product you use. Think of it as your "approved products" directory — it defines what products exist in your organization, while the inventory tracks where those products are and how much you have.

This separation keeps your data clean and consistent. When multiple sites stock the same product, they all reference the same catalog entry — same manufacturer, same SDS, same hazard data. No more inconsistent product names or duplicate entries across locations.

You will find the Product Catalog under the Manage group of the ChemIQ sidebar.

Key Features

Catalog List View

Browse your full product catalog with search and filters:

  • Product name and manufacturer for each entry
  • Container size and unit (for example, "1 gallon" or "5 lb bag")
  • Linked SDS status — whether an SDS is attached
  • Number of inventory items — how many locations stock this product
  • Search by product name, manufacturer, or CAS number

How Container Sizes Work

In the Product Catalog, different container sizes are tracked as separate catalog entries. This follows the industry-standard SKU pattern — a 1-gallon jug and a 55-gallon drum of the same product are different items in your catalog, just as they would be different SKUs in a distributor's system.

This matters because:

  • Container size affects storage requirements and fire code calculations
  • Ordering and receiving reference specific container sizes
  • Quantity tracking is more accurate when the container size is defined at the product level

When you add a product, you specify the container size (for example, "1 gal," "5 L," or "25 lb"). If you stock the same product in multiple sizes, create a catalog entry for each size.

Add a Product

Adding a product to the catalog uses the same unified Add Chemical page as adding inventory. To add a catalog-only product, you leave the Add to inventory now? toggle off:

  1. Navigate to ChemIQ > Product Catalog (under the Manage group)
  2. Click Add Product — this opens the shared Add Chemical page in catalog mode, with Add to inventory now? set to off (catalog-only)
  3. Identify the product using any method (From Catalog, Scan Barcode, Capture Label, Import SDS) or click Don't see your product? Enter manually
  4. Enter the product name and manufacturer
  5. Attach an SDS from your library (optional but recommended)
  6. Leave Add to inventory now? off so nothing is recorded as stock
  7. Click Add chemical

Once the product is in your catalog, anyone on your team can add it to inventory at their site — without re-entering all the product details. There is no longer a separate Add Product page; catalog-only products and inventory entries are created from the same page, distinguished only by the toggle.

Product Detail View

Click any catalog entry to open its detail page:

  • Product Information — Name, manufacturer, and container size
  • Identifiers — CAS numbers, product codes, and other lookup values
  • Hazard Information — GHS pictograms, signal word, and hazard classifications extracted from the SDS
  • SDS & Documents — The attached Safety Data Sheet with its parsed hazard data
  • EPA Pesticide Label — Registration data and signal word for products flagged as pesticides
  • Inventory Across Sites — Every site and location where this product is stocked (managers see the sites they manage)
  • Tags — Custom tags your team has applied
  • Data Quality — An at-a-glance indicator of how complete this catalog entry is
  • Audit Trail — When the product was added and last modified, and by whom

Add to Inventory from Catalog

The fastest way to add a chemical to your inventory:

  1. Open the product in the catalog
  2. Click Add to Inventory — this opens the Add Chemical page with the product pre-filled and Add to inventory now? already turned on
  3. Enter the container size and unit, the number of containers, and an optional location within the selected site
  4. Click Add chemical

The inventory entry inherits all product details, SDS data, and hazard classifications from the catalog entry.
