Compatibility Checker

Module: ChemIQ

The Compatibility Checker is a "know before you move" tool. Pick a handful of products, and Tellus tells you whether any of them are known to be incompatible — before you physically store or handle them together. It's the proactive companion to Storage Compatibility: instead of reporting on conflicts that already exist in your inventory, it lets you test a hypothetical combination on demand.

You'll find it under ChemIQ > Tools > Compatibility Checker.

When to Use It

Reach for the Compatibility Checker whenever you're about to change what sits next to what:

Before receiving a new chemical — Will it clash with what's already in the cabinet?
Before consolidating storage — Can these products share a shelf?
Before a move — Is it safe to relocate these items together?
During planning — Test a "what if we added this?" scenario without touching real inventory.

How It Works

1. Build Your Set

Add two or more products to check. There are two ways to do this:

Search your catalog — Type a product name or manufacturer and pick from the results. A product must already be in your Product Catalog before it can be checked; if it isn't, add it to the catalog first.
Load a location's contents — Choose a storage location at your current site and Tellus pulls in everything stored there. This is the fastest way to test a hypothetical addition: load the room, add the one new product you're considering, and check the whole set at once.

Selected products appear as chips. Remove any of them with the × button. Changing the set clears any previous result, so a verdict always reflects exactly what's currently selected.

2. Run the Check

Click Check compatibility. Tellus evaluates every pair in your set against the active compatibility ruleset — the same NRC Prudent Practices and USCG 46 CFR 150 taxonomies that power Storage Compatibility, derived from the GHS hazard classification of each product's SDS.

3. Read the Result

The result is deliberately designed to be loud about conflicts and humble about the all-clear:

Known conflicts — Any incompatible pairs are shown as detailed cards, sorted worst-first (prohibited, then conflict, then best-practice). Each card explains the reaction, the rationale, and the source citation.
No known conflicts — If nothing clashes, you'll see a calm, neutral message. This is informational, not approval. There is no green "safe" checkmark, because the absence of a known conflict is not a guarantee of safety.
Couldn't check — Products that have no SDS attached, or an SDS that hasn't been classified yet, are listed separately. An unchecked product is not a cleared product. To include them, attach and classify an SDS.

Every result carries a ruleset stamp — the version, publication date, and reviewer — so any screenshot has a built-in audit trail.

Important: Informational Only

Like Storage Compatibility, the Compatibility Checker surfaces potential conflicts based on published taxonomies and documented chemistry. It does not approve storage decisions and does not prevent conflicts.

Always verify SDS Section 7 (Handling and Storage) and consult qualified EHS personnel before making storage decisions. A non-dismissible disclaimer is shown above the tool at all times.
