Quick Import: Capture a Photo

For: Any user with quick_import permission | Tier: Standard and Pro

Photo Capture is the easiest way to inventory chemicals in the field. Walk through your facility, photograph each product label, and Tellus handles the rest — extracting product information and sending it to the review queue for approval.

Prerequisites

  • Your account must have the quick_import permission (granted by your Admin)
  • Your plan must be Standard or Pro
  • Your device must have a camera (works on mobile and desktop)
  • At least one site and location must exist in your organization

Steps

  1. Navigate to ChemIQ > Quick Import > Photo Capture
  2. Select the site where you are working
  3. Select the location within that site (for example, "Warehouse Shelf A"). This stays set for your session so you can move quickly through a single area.
  4. Take 1 to 5 photos of the product label — aim for clear, well-lit shots that include the product name and manufacturer
  5. Enter the quantity of containers on hand and the unit
  6. Add notes if needed (for example, "partially used" or "label damaged")
  7. Tap Submit to send the item to the review queue
  8. Tap Add Another to photograph the next product without leaving the capture screen

Expected Result

Your submission appears in the My Submissions tab with a "Pending Review" status. A manager or admin will review, verify the AI-extracted data, and approve the item — at which point it is automatically added to your live inventory.

Tips

  • Lighting matters — Natural light or bright overhead lighting gives the best results. Avoid glare on glossy labels.
  • Capture the full label — Include the product name, manufacturer, and any hazard symbols in the frame.
  • Multiple photos help — If the label wraps around a container, take 2-3 photos from different angles.
  • Use notes — Flag anything unusual (leaking container, faded label, unknown product) so the reviewer has context.
  • Stay in one area — Set your location once, then work through the shelf or cabinet before moving to the next location.
