Bulk Upload SDS Documents
For: Admin, Manager | Tier: Standard and Pro
When you have many SDS documents to upload — whether migrating from another system or onboarding a new site — bulk upload lets you process them all in a single step.
Prerequisites
- You must have Admin or Manager role
- Your plan must be Standard or Pro (Starter supports up to 10 at once)
- SDS files must be in PDF format
- All PDFs must be collected into a single ZIP archive
Steps
- Prepare your SDS files — collect all PDF files into a single ZIP archive on your computer
- Navigate to ChemIQ > SDS Library
- Click
Bulk Upload - Upload the ZIP file by dragging it onto the upload area or clicking to browse
- Watch the progress — Tellus extracts the PDFs and begins AI parsing on each one individually. You will see a progress indicator for the batch.
- Review each SDS as parsing completes:
- Each document gets its own entry in the library
- Review the parsed product name, manufacturer, and hazard data
- Approve or flag for correction
- Approve completed entries to finalize them in your library
Expected Result
Each PDF in the ZIP file becomes a separate SDS entry in your library, fully parsed with all 16 GHS sections extracted. You can link these SDSs to inventory items immediately.
Tips
- File naming — Name your PDF files with the product name for easier identification during review (for example, "Acetone - Fisher Scientific.pdf").
- Batch limits — Standard plans can upload 50 SDSs at once; Pro plans have no limit.
- Failed parses — If a document fails to parse (usually due to poor scan quality or non-standard format), it will be flagged. You can re-upload a better copy or enter the data manually.
- Duplicate detection — If Tellus finds a document that matches an existing SDS in your library, it will flag it as a potential duplicate so you can decide whether to keep or replace.
