Upload a Safety Data Sheet

For: Admin, Manager, Coordinator | Tier: All plans

Uploading an SDS to Tellus makes it instantly accessible to your entire team and unlocks AI-powered features like hazard classification, PPE recommendations, and regulatory compliance checking.

Prerequisites

  • You must have Admin, Manager, or Program Coordinator role
  • The SDS must be a PDF file
  • Check your plan's SDS storage limit (Starter: 50 SDSs; Standard and Pro: unlimited)

Steps

  1. Navigate to ChemIQ > SDS Library
  2. Click Upload SDS
  3. Drag and drop your PDF file onto the upload area, or click to browse your files
  4. Wait for AI parsing — Tellus begins extracting data from all 16 GHS sections automatically. This typically takes less than a minute.
  5. Review the parsed results once processing is complete:
    • Verify the product name and manufacturer are correct
    • Check the hazard classifications and GHS pictograms
    • Review the composition section for CAS numbers and concentration percentages
    • Confirm the PPE recommendations from Section 8
  6. Approve the parsed data to finalize the SDS in your library

Expected Result

The SDS appears in your library with all 16 sections parsed and structured. Hazard data, CAS numbers, and regulatory information are extracted and available for use across ChemIQ — in your inventory, compliance checks, PPE recommendations, and label printing.

Tips

  • Quality matters — Clear, high-resolution PDFs parse more accurately. If you have a scanned copy and a digital copy, use the digital version.
  • Review carefully — AI parsing is highly accurate but not perfect. Spend a moment verifying critical fields like CAS numbers and hazard classifications.
  • Upload before adding to inventory — If you upload the SDS first, you can use the "Add from SDS" method to create inventory entries with pre-filled product data.
  • Need to upload many at once? See Bulk Upload SDS Documents.
