Switching Between Companies

For: Consultant (and any user with multi-company access) | Tier: Pro

If you're an EHS consultant, safety firm, or managed service provider managing multiple client companies, Tellus lets you access all of them from a single login. The company selector in the top header bar is your tool for switching between clients.

How It Works

When you belong to more than one company, the header bar displays a company selector dropdown next to the site selector. It shows the name of the company you're currently viewing.

To Switch Companies

  1. Click the company selector in the top header bar
  2. A dropdown shows all companies you have access to
  3. Click the company you want to switch to
  4. The entire interface updates:
    • The site selector refreshes to show the selected company's sites
    • The chemical inventory, SDS library, training, and plans all switch to the new company's data
    • Your dashboard and compliance metrics reflect the selected company

The switch is instant — no need to log out and log back in.

Data Isolation

Each company's data is completely isolated. When you switch from Company A to Company B:

  • You see only Company B's chemicals, SDSs, plans, and training
  • Any actions you take (adding chemicals, assigning training, approving plans) affect only the selected company
  • Company A's data is not visible or accessible until you switch back
  • Audit logs record which company you were viewing when you took each action

This isolation is enforced at every level. There is no cross-company data leakage.

Your Role May Differ

Your role can be different in each company. For example:

  • Company A — You might be an Administrator with full access
  • Company B — You might be a Program Coordinator focused on HazCom plans
  • Company C — You might be a Manager overseeing a specific site

When you switch companies, your permissions update to match your role in that company. The features you see in the navigation and the actions available to you reflect your role in the currently selected company.

Who Gets Multi-Company Access

Multi-company access is available to:

  • Consultants — The Consultant role is specifically designed for multi-company management
  • Users invited to multiple companies — If two different companies invite the same email address, that user can switch between both

The company you're invited to must be on a Pro plan to support consultant access.

Tips

  • Check which company is selected before taking any action — especially when adding chemicals, approving plans, or managing users. The company name is always visible in the header.
  • Use consistent site naming across clients if you manage similar facilities — it makes switching contexts easier.
  • Each company has its own billing — Your consultant access doesn't affect the client company's subscription or billing.
