Mobile App & Offline Access

For: All roles | Tier: All plans

Tellus EHS works as a full app on your phone, tablet, or desktop — no app store required. You can install it directly from your browser, work offline when you lose connectivity, and receive push notifications for compliance alerts, training reminders, and more.

Install Tellus as an App

You can install Tellus EHS as a standalone app that looks and feels like a native application. It gets its own icon on your home screen (mobile) or taskbar (desktop), opens in its own window, and launches instantly.

On Mobile (iPhone, iPad, Android)

  1. Open Tellus EHS in your mobile browser (Chrome on Android, Safari on iPhone/iPad)
  2. An install prompt appears at the bottom of the screen suggesting you add Tellus to your home screen
  3. Tap Install or Add to Home Screen
  4. Tellus EHS now appears as an app icon on your home screen

If you dismiss the prompt, you can still install manually:

  • Android (Chrome): Tap the three-dot menu, then tap Add to Home screen
  • iPhone/iPad (Safari): Tap the share button, then tap Add to Home Screen

On Desktop (Windows, Mac, Chromebook)

  1. Open Tellus EHS in Chrome or Edge
  2. An install prompt appears inviting you to install the app
  3. Click Install
  4. Tellus EHS opens in its own window and appears in your taskbar or dock

If you dismiss the prompt, look for the install icon in your browser's address bar, or go to the browser menu and select Install Tellus EHS.

Offline Mode

When you lose your internet connection, Tellus EHS keeps working. You can continue viewing your chemical inventory, SDS library, training assignments, and other data that has been cached on your device.

What Happens When You Go Offline

  • An amber "You're offline" banner appears at the top of the screen so you always know your connection status
  • Data you have previously viewed is available from your device's local cache
  • Cached data is shown with a "Cached data" indicator so you know it may not reflect the very latest changes
  • If you navigate to a page you have not previously visited, a branded offline page explains that the content is not available until you reconnect

Submitting Data While Offline

If you fill out a form, update a quantity, or perform another action while offline, Tellus automatically queues your changes. When your connection is restored, those changes are submitted in the background — no action needed on your part.

You do not need to worry about losing work. Any data you enter while offline is safely stored on your device and synced as soon as connectivity returns.

Reconnecting

When your internet connection comes back:

  1. The amber offline banner disappears
  2. Any queued changes are automatically submitted
  3. Your data refreshes to show the latest information

App Updates

Tellus EHS updates automatically. When a new version is available, you will see an "Update available" prompt in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Click Update now to load the latest version immediately.

This replaces silent background updates, so you always know when you are getting new features or improvements. If you do not click the prompt right away, the update will apply the next time you reopen the app.

Push Notifications

Push notifications let you receive alerts directly on your device — even when Tellus EHS is not open. This is especially useful for time-sensitive compliance deadlines, overdue training, and inventory threshold warnings.

Enabling Push Notifications

  1. After signing in, a "Stay updated" prompt appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen
  2. Click Enable notifications
  3. Your browser asks for permission — click Allow
  4. You are now subscribed to push notifications

If you dismiss the prompt, you can enable notifications later from your browser settings.

What Notifications Will You Receive?

Notification TypeExamples
Compliance alertsCompliance gaps detected at your site, regulatory deadlines approaching
Inventory warningsChemical quantity exceeds a regulatory threshold
Training remindersTraining assignment due soon, training overdue
SDS alertsSDS expiring soon, SDS expiration warning
Plan updatesHazCom plan approved, plan rejected, revision requested

Push notifications supplement the in-app and email notifications you already receive. They do not replace them — you will still see notifications in your in-app notification bell and receive email alerts for high-priority events.

Managing Push Notifications

You can turn push notifications on or off at any time through your browser settings:

  • Chrome: Click the lock icon in the address bar, then adjust Notifications
  • Edge: Click the lock icon in the address bar, then adjust Notifications
  • Safari (Mac): Go to Safari menu, then Settings, then Websites, then Notifications
  • Mobile browsers: Go to your device's Settings app, find your browser, and adjust notification permissions for Tellus EHS

Tips for Field Workers and Safety Managers

  • Install the app on your phone before visiting job sites — cached data means you can look up chemical hazards, PPE requirements, and SDS information even in areas with poor connectivity
  • Enable push notifications so you never miss a compliance deadline or overdue training alert
  • Check the offline banner — if you see the amber banner, any data you are viewing may not reflect the most recent changes made by other team members
  • Submit forms with confidence — even without connectivity, your submissions are queued and will sync automatically when you reconnect
