Monitor Chemical Insights
For: Admin, Coordinator | Tier: Standard+
Chemical Insights tells you everything you need to know about your chemical hazard profile. Here's how to use it to maintain full SDS coverage and understand the risks in your workplace.
Steps
-
Navigate to Chemical Insights — Click
Insightsin the sidebar, then selectChemical Insightsfrom the dashboard menu. -
Check SDS Coverage — The coverage percentage at the top tells you how many of your chemicals have a current, valid SDS. Your target is 100%. If the number is below that, look at the breakdown:
- Missing SDS — Chemicals that have no SDS attached at all. These need immediate attention.
- Expired SDS — Chemicals with an SDS past its recommended review date. Reach out to the manufacturer for an updated version, or search for it in the SDS Library.
- Expiring soon — SDSs that will expire within 30, 60, or 90 days. Plan ahead to replace these before they expire.
-
Review the GHS Pictogram Overview — This section shows which hazard symbols are present across your inventory and how many chemicals carry each classification. Use this to understand your overall risk profile — a workplace with many skull and crossbones or health hazard chemicals has different compliance needs than one with primarily exclamation mark chemicals.
-
Analyze Hazard Distribution — Review the breakdown by physical hazards (flammables, oxidizers), health hazards (carcinogens, toxins), and environmental hazards (aquatic toxicity). This helps you prioritize PPE procurement, training focus areas, and emergency response planning.
-
Identify Gaps — Look at the inventory health metrics for chemicals missing quantity data, unclassified chemicals, or potential duplicates. Click any metric to see the specific chemicals and take corrective action.
-
Filter by Site — If you manage multiple locations, use the site filter to view chemical data for a specific site. This is useful for site-specific inspections or when comparing hazard profiles across locations.
-
Export Data — Click
Exportto download a PDF report or CSV file of your chemical insights data for management reviews, audits, or inspector requests.
Tips
- SDS coverage is your top priority — OSHA requires an SDS for every hazardous chemical. Anything below 100% is a citable gap.
- Watch the trend lines — If your coverage percentage is declining over time, chemicals are being added faster than SDSs are being uploaded. Adjust your import workflow to attach SDSs during the intake process.
- Use pictogram data for PPE planning — The GHS pictogram breakdown directly maps to PPE requirements. More corrosion pictograms means more demand for chemical-resistant gloves and goggles.
