Assignments

For: Trainer, Manager, Admin | Tier: Standard and Pro

Assignments are how training gets from your course library to your employees. When you create an assignment, you choose which courses to deliver, who should take them, and when they need to finish. SafePath handles the rest — notifying employees, tracking progress, and flagging overdue work.

How Assignments Work

An assignment connects one or more courses to one or more employees. When you create an assignment, each targeted employee receives a notification and sees the course(s) appear on their My Training page with the due date you set.

Creating an Assignment

To create a new assignment:

  1. Go to SafePath then Assignments
  2. Click New Assignment
  3. Select course(s) — Choose one or more published courses from your library
  4. Choose who to assign — You have three targeting options:
    • Individual employees — Pick specific people by name
    • Entire site — Assign to everyone at a specific site
    • Specific role — Assign to everyone with a particular job role (e.g., all Forklift Operators)
  5. Set a due date — The deadline for completing the training
  6. Add an optional message — Include a note explaining why this training is being assigned
  7. Click Create Assignment

Employees receive a notification immediately and the courses appear on their training page.

See How-To: Assign Training to Employees for the step-by-step guide.

Assignment Statuses

Each employee's assignment progresses through these statuses:

StatusMeaning
AssignedThe employee has been notified but has not started the course
In ProgressThe employee has started the course but has not completed it
CompletedThe employee has finished the course and met the passing requirements
OverdueThe due date has passed and the employee has not completed the course

You can view assignment status from the Assignments page. Filter by status to quickly find overdue training or check completion rates.

Bulk Assignment

When you need to roll out training across your entire organization — for example, an annual HazCom refresher or a new safety policy — bulk assignment saves time:

  • Select multiple courses at once
  • Target an entire site or multiple sites
  • All selected employees receive their assignments simultaneously

This is especially useful at the start of each year when annual retraining requirements kick in, or when new OSHA regulations take effect.

Reminders and Notifications

SafePath sends automatic notifications at key points:

  • Assignment created — Employee is notified of the new training requirement
  • Deadline approaching — Reminders sent before the due date
  • Overdue — Both the employee and their manager are notified when a deadline is missed
