Courses

For: Trainer, Admin | Tier: Standard and Pro

Courses are the foundation of your training program. Each course is a collection of lessons and quizzes that teaches employees about a specific safety topic — whether that is HazCom, fall protection, lockout/tagout, or a custom topic specific to your workplace.

SafePath gives you full control over course content, structure, and delivery. Build courses from scratch, organize them by OSHA-aligned categories, and publish when ready.

Course Library

The Courses page is your central library of all training courses. From here you can:

  • View all courses with their status, category, and lesson count
  • Search by course title or keyword
  • Filter by category (HazCom, Fall Protection, LOTO, etc.) or status (Draft, Published, Archived)
  • Open any course to view or edit its content
  • Create a new course

Courses are organized by the categories you configure — SafePath comes with 16 pre-built OSHA-aligned categories, and you can add custom ones to match your organization's needs.

Creating a Course

To create a new course:

  1. Go to SafePath then Courses
  2. Click New Course
  3. Enter a title that employees will recognize (e.g., "HazCom 2026 Annual Refresher")
  4. Add a description explaining what the course covers and who should take it
  5. Select a category from the dropdown (HazCom, Fall Protection, etc.)
  6. Click Save to create the course as a Draft

Your course is now ready for content. You are taken to the course editor where you can add lessons and quizzes.

See How-To: Create a Training Course for the step-by-step guide.

Course Content Types

Each course is made up of one or more lessons. SafePath supports four lesson types:

Text Lessons

Write lesson content directly in the editor. Use text lessons for safety policies, procedures, chemical hazard summaries, or any written material employees need to read and understand.

Video Lessons

Upload training videos or link to external video content. Video lessons are ideal for demonstrating proper procedures — how to don PPE, how to read an SDS, how to respond to a spill.

PDF and Slide Lessons

Attach PDF documents or slide presentations. Use these for existing training materials, manufacturer safety guides, or OSHA reference documents that employees should review.

Quizzes

Add quizzes to verify comprehension after lessons. Each quiz supports:

  • Multiple choice questions (single correct answer)
  • True/false questions
  • Configurable passing score — set the minimum percentage employees must achieve (default is 80%)
  • Retake options — allow employees to retake the quiz if they do not pass on the first attempt

Quizzes can be placed after individual lessons or at the end of the course as a final assessment.

See How-To: Add Lessons and Quizzes for details on building course content.

Course Statuses

Every course has one of three statuses:

StatusMeaning
DraftCourse is being built or edited. Not visible to employees. Cannot be assigned.
PublishedCourse is live. Can be assigned to employees. Content is locked from major edits.
ArchivedCourse is retired. No longer assignable. Existing completion records are preserved.

You can move a course from Draft to Published when you are satisfied with the content. If a course becomes outdated, archive it — you do not lose any historical training records.

Course Editor

The course editor is where you build out your content. It provides:

  • A lesson list in the left panel showing the order of lessons and quizzes
  • A content area where you add and edit each lesson
  • Drag-and-drop reordering of lessons
  • A preview mode to see the course as an employee would experience it

Spend time previewing your course before publishing. Once published, employees can begin taking it immediately.
